Last month, I was part of the cover reveal tour for the exciting upcoming novel by K.J. Hunter-Brown, Counterpart. Since the book releases on February 13th, K.J. decided to host a giveaway to build up the already exciting buzz about the debut. I wanted to have K.J. on the blog so we could all learn more about her, so let’s get to it!
Author Bio:
I was born in a little country called, New Zealand. Yes, it’s not a part of Australia but it is the little country beside it. I spend majority of the time living in my imagination. I spend a majority of my time reading, writing, watching Sci-Fi movies (I’m a nerd and proud!), listening to music, and going on an adventure with my characters (that’s my favorite one).
Now tell us something about you that your bio doesn’t include. Feel free to make us laugh!
I never knew what I wanted to be, and I’ve been spending the last three years of my life experiencing different things. I guess after studying subject after subject, I turned to reading to get me away from it. After I read book after book, I decided to write my first novel, which isn’t Counterpart. Actually, that novel is under someone else’s care for the time being. Counterpart was my third novel I wrote, but the second one that is finished.
I wish I could write something like, “I’ve been writing since I was a young age,” but I can’t, because that’s not true. However, I’ve been reading since the day I understood the first word of the book.
And for the most important questions, I have no children, and I live in a small but quaint house.
I dream big, and have no limitations. Someone once told me that “The sky is the limit” and I took that advice, and forever re-quote it to myself. My family and friends are my biggest supporters, even though some of them like to be competitive over who is the biggest fan.
I believe everyone can reach their dreams, if they kept on their own two feet and never gave up.
Tell us about some of the unique elements in your book. What inspired you to write it?
I think that there is a lot of unique elements within Counterpart. We have a lot of history brought in, a lot of supernatural appearances and a steamy romance that always leaves the main protagonist coming back for more. And, I know that a lot of stories have those elements, but I think the ones used in this one are very unique and realistic.
Who is (or has been) your favorite character to write and why?
I would have to say Maya (Counterpart), only because there is a lot of me in her. And, I’m still trying to figure out if that is a good thing or not. She has attitude, humor, and always seems to get trouble, much to her best friend’s dismay.
What is something you think people should know about your book before they start reading?
I consider my book an underdog. You’re hesitant at first, not knowing what you’re going to get when you turn the first page, but in the end, I think you will fall in love with the characters as much as me. The story has humor, action, angst and kissing. The four best things.
When you have time to read, who are some of the authors whose books you have to have on-hand?
I have a lot of authors that I adore, but recently, I’ve been reading debuts from other authors, mostly in the Contemporary side. A story I recently finished was called, The One For Me by Layla James, and I thought that was a very interesting read, and kept me entertained for the whole two hours that I read it.
Tell us about a book that resonated with you (either recently or prior to your writing career).
I can’t really pinpoint a singular book, but a lot of novels have touched me in different ways. I think that’s one of the things I love about reading – other than the fact that it gives you a break from reality.
What are you reading right now?
Right now, I’m reading Kiss Me by Jillian Dodd.
Okay…quick response time. What is your fave:
Food? I have always loved Mexican food.
Guilty pleasure? I don’t really have a guilty pleasure. I don’t usually feel guilty over things that pleasure me…
TV show? At this very moment, it would have to be, The Walking Dead. Hands down.
Beverage? Coffee, and sugar-caffeinated drinks that leave me awake all night. (Good times.)
Place to be? My bed. No hesitation. My bed is my favorite place to be.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?
I would love to thank every single reader that gets their hands on my book, and goes through the journey of reading it.
